Why use a trap for rats?
A catch gives you a clear result and lets you remove the rat straight away. This is especially useful indoors, where a poisoned rat could die beneath a floor or behind a wall and cause an unpleasant smell.
Good placement makes the difference
- Find fresh signs and identify the routes along walls, edges and sheltered areas.
- Use a small amount of suitable food lure and set the trap according to its instructions, keeping hands clear of the mechanism.
- Position it securely on a stable surface along the route, with the trigger end towards the wall, where children, pets and wildlife cannot reach it.
- Check at least daily and remove a catch promptly. Clean and reset as directed.
Be patient with rats
Rats can be wary of new objects. This is called neophobia, and it can mean avoiding a new trap for several days. Give a well-positioned trap time rather than moving it after one quiet night. If there are several active routes, use more than one trap to cover them.
